Choosing a system
In a self-contained marine air conditioner, the compressor, condenser and evaporator are housed in a single unit. These systems are easy to install, maintain and service.
MBC Marine self-contained air conditioners are available in three versions:
VSC
A variable speed compressor continuously adapts to the cabin’s actual cooling or heating demand. Inverter technology delivers more even temperature control, lower noise levels and more efficient energy use. The VSC series is currently one of MBC Marine’s most popular and most technologically advanced product lines.
ESC
A reliable, easy-to-install and cost-effective solution. The compressor switches off when the set temperature is reached and restarts when needed. Unlike inverter systems, cooling output is not regulated by continuously varying the compressor speed.
SDC
12V, 24V or 48V systems designed specifically for battery operation. With sufficient battery capacity, they cool the boat without shore power or a generator – the ideal choice for owners who want quiet, energy-efficient operation and greater energy independence.
SCP
In a split system, the unit containing the compressor and condenser is installed outside the cabin, typically in a technical space, while the evaporator sits in the living area. This keeps compressor noise out of the cabin. A split system is especially useful on boats where space is limited or quiet operation is a priority.
HC
On multi-cabin yachts, MBC Marine HC series inverter chiller systems provide a central air conditioning solution. The variable speed chiller cools or heats a closed fresh water loop, which delivers the desired temperature through fan coil units installed in the cabins.
Each cabin’s temperature can be controlled individually, so guests enjoy comfort tailored to their own needs. A further advantage of the system is that no refrigerant piping is needed in the living spaces.
Sizing a boat air conditioning system correctly depends on several factors: cabin volume, the size of the glazed areas, insulation, the number of people on board, the desired noise level and the climate of your cruising area.
